Every woman loves jewelry – but hello, who can afford all those expensive bracelets, earrings, necklaces and rings? We all like to feel like a princess from time to time. Nicholas K Kicks Off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week For The Second Season At Lincoln Center

Nicholas K will kick-off Mercedes-Benz Fashion on Thursday, February 10, 9:00 am, following last season when Nicholas K was the first show EVER at Lincoln Center.

Hailing from Arizona, Nicholas and Christopher grew up spending a lot of time in the outdoors and love to go fishing and camping. After living in New York City for several years, the brother & sister duo decided to finally look for a refuge in Upstate NY where they could bring their dog (the popular Boxer, Jake, who always makes the runway exit with them after their shows) and participate in the outdoor sports they love. This search for the perfect cabin, surrounded by protected land with reservoirs, trails for hiking, forests for hunting and streams for fishing, became an inspiration for this upcoming Fall collection.

As Nicholas explains, “For our Fall collection, I was inspired by the woods and rustic living; the survival instinct and going back to primitive ways. The fall colors of the forest are reflected in the palette and overall aesthetic and I used a lot of texture and incorporated Navajo inspired prints. Think log homes, gypsies, stone fireplaces, owls, camping and migration.” Movies such as The Wilderness Family, A River Runs Through It, Legends of the Fall and Into the Wild also served as inspiration.
The collection features fabrics such as; rich corduroys, hunter green silk velvets and butter-soft lambskin and warm Mongolian furs. Key styles include chunky hand-knit cable sweaters with hand knotted leather buttons, tiered ruffle skirts that can be worn as dresses and many pieces are made with multifunctional details. Colors include rust orange, hunter green, evergreen, moss, birch, snow, harvest, bark and mud brown.

Since launching their women’s line in Fall of 2003, with men’s following in 2006, Nicholas Kunz and her brother and business partner, Christopher Kunz, have continued to deliver a downtown city edge to their customer base. Known for their trademark traditional quality and design with modern twists, the brand strives to deliver unique products, which will remain timeless wardrobe staples. In 2009, Nicholas and Christopher were inducted as members of the CFDA, marking a pivotal moment for the brand. The Nicholas K collection is now sold in over 120 stores worldwide and they also recently launched an E-Shop on their website at www.nicholask.com.

Check back on Thursday to see a video of Nicholas K‘s runway show!

Project Runway’s Irina Shabayeva Debuts Spring 2011 Capsule Collection For Macy’s

Irina Shabayeva, Project Runway’s Season Six winner, injects some adrenaline into Spring/Summer 2011’s line up with the launch of her new collaboration with Macy’s. Shabayeva joined forces with INC International Concepts to create her first capsule collection, available only at Macy’s.  For Irina, fashion is not just about clothing – it’s about a lifestyle. Known for her mastery of fit and proportion and flattering garments that accentuate the body, it seemed a natural fit for Irina to work with INC on a new concept in fashion forward sportswear.

Irina Shabayeva’s line is a sportswear collection that evolved out of the notion of movement and dance. Form fitting dresses and separates, notably tops, skirts, jackets and even denim, Shabayeva relied on her ability to create flattering silhouettes with clean lines, modern fabrics and bright colors. To finish the look, Irina for INC includes dance inspired footwear that ranges from Ponte slipper platforms and ribbon tied espadrilles.

Colors and patterns took a cue from Rubik’s Cube, with strong strokes of bubble-gum brights and rich jewel tones creating bold color blocking on shifts, dresses, and tunics. Vibrant jersey tops and skirts are paired with army anoraks; black and white body con dresses are embellished with exposed zippers, while flirty lace confectionary designs are embellished with jeweled beading.

The collection will launch on February 19th in 50 Macy’s stores. Creating versatile pieces that can take a woman from day to night, the collection effortlessly creates a feminine and flirty look for the trendsetting woman.

Woolrich Black Label To Be Launched At New York Fashion Week

Woolrich, the quality outdoor clothing company that supposedly first used a zipper in men’s trousers, has brought on British designer Paula Gerbase as creative director, just in time for New York Fashion Week to launch the new Black Label collection of high-end outerwear, dresses, shirts, pants and cashmere separates this season. Gerbase, who began her career working for designers like Alistair Carr and Gareth Pugh, was hired for her “ability to skirt the line between masculinity and femininity, from her years of training in couture tailoring.”

The Black Label is an extensive one, encompassing 20 looks in 40 pieces, including coats, which retail between $1,000-$1,200; dresses between $350-$400; cashmere sweaters for $650 and pants, $250. The line will be available for fall at Barneys, Otte, Anthropologie and Olive & Bette’s.

Woolrich Black Label will show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week the very first time in February 2011. We are super excited for the show and will be releasing images just after New York Fashion Week!
